Description

GLUJEY-M1 is a potent, dual-action oral antidiabetic formulation by Ellanjey that combines Glimepiride (1 mg) and Metformin Hydrochloride Prolonged Release (500 mg) – two complementary, well-established medications for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This fixed-dose combination is indicated when diet, exercise and single-agent therapy are insufficient to achieve adequate glycemic control.

Key Benefits:

  • Powerful Blood Sugar Reduction – Glimepiride stimulates insulin release; Metformin reduces glucose production.

  • Insulin Sensitizer – Metformin improves the body’s response to insulin, addressing insulin resistance.

  • Pancreatic Stimulation – Glimepiride helps the pancreas release more insulin when needed.

  • Prolonged Release Metformin – Provides smoother blood sugar control with reduced gastrointestinal side effects.

  • Cardiovascular Benefits – Metformin is associated with reduced cardiovascular risk in diabetics.

  • Weight Neutral / Weight Loss – Metformin does not cause weight gain (may promote modest weight loss).

  • Low Risk of Hypoglycemia – When taken as directed, risk of low blood sugar is lower than with sulfonylureas alone.

FAQs:

1. What is the advantage of the prolonged release (SR) Metformin in Glujey-M1?
SR metformin causes fewer gastrointestinal side effects (nausea, diarrhoea) and allows once or twice daily dosing compared to immediate-release metformin which requires 2-3 times daily.

2. Can Glujey-M1 cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)?
Yes – glimepiride can cause hypoglycemia. Always carry a fast-acting sugar source (glucose tablets, candy, juice). Metformin alone does not cause hypoglycemia.

3. Is Glujey-M1 safe for kidney patients?
Metformin is contraindicated in severe kidney disease (eGFR <30). For mild to moderate kidney disease, your doctor may adjust the dose or choose an alternative. Always inform your doctor about your kidney function.

4. Why do I need to stop Metformin before a CT scan or X-ray with contrast dye?
Contrast dye can temporarily affect kidney function. Metformin combined with reduced kidney function increases the risk of lactic acidosis (a serious condition). You must stop metformin before and for 48 hours after the procedure.
