This drink is a combination of five drugs, namely: Sodium chloride, vitamin C, potassium chloride, dextrose, and sodium citrate. It may increase the risk of hyperkalemia (high level of potassium in the blood). This drink should be avoided in patients with or at risk for hyperkalemia.

Does it cause hyponatremia (low level of sodium)?

The risk for hyponatremia is increased in elderly, paediatric patients, postoperative patients and patients who are taking drugs which may increase the risk of hyponatremia. Close clinical monitoring in such patients is advised.

Is it safe to take this drink if I have hyperglycemia?

It should be used with caution in patients with impaired glucose tolerance. Regular monitoring of blood sugar levels is advised.

Is it safe to take corticosteroids with this drink?

Consult your doctor before taking corticosteroids or corticotropin as it may increase the risk of sodium fluid retention.
